Essay Social Work

In this essay I´m talking about my degree and a possible postgraduate study. In first time, I do a contextualization of Social Work in Universidad de Chile and the important of innovation in this university.  Then, I will expose my expectations for the future to finally make an invitation to value social work as a discipline that provides multiple tools to face the social.

During the dictatorship in Chile in the years 70’ and 80’ the degree’s like social work was closed in every Universities for the big the social impact in the country also its revolutionary character. So, after a late time, and so not long ago in the 2015 the career is open again in the Universidad de Chile! Is a history moment for the University and the teachers was that leave the area many years ago.

The social work in the Universidad de Chile have a critical character and searching the social transformation, leaving behind the traditional form to do the social work, for example, the professional practices it’s in the past now is over, because now since third year we have nucleus of investigation with different themes , for example, feminist teory, social movements, migrants, infancy, risk and disasters etc. It’s very diverse areas for every tastes and vocations. 

I’m in my fourth year of Social Work at University, and first I’m focus in to finalize the undergraduate.  However, I to have aspirations, and it captive me the area of the Psychology and the Education, so that in my fifth year the program of Social Work offers to take courses of magister or diploma, and I personally I will be taking the diploma of “Community psychology” because is inside of the five years of program.

As can you see, Social work is a very diverse discipline that seeks to carry out social intervention to generate changes in the system in which we live.
